Howdendyke,Goole and the Trent (56 images)
4th April 2006

Up at 6am when the two alarms went off (ie,my two boys Jaiden and Ellis),dont need clocks in our house with those two.Off i went to collect Mick Evans for our little jaunt up the Trent calling at Howdendyke and Goole before checking out the wharves.
First stop Howdendyke catching the 'Reest' on one of the jetties in the first of the morning sun.As we arrived at Goole Docks the first of our sightings, the 'Pride of Braila',was making her manouvers through the dock to make a stern departure through the lock.At this time the 'Odin' was loading the last of her containers as she was next to depart.Caught the 'Oradana' in Carrs Corner and across the way the regular 'Tharsis' on the Gantry berth. The 'Aquila' was on Caldaire Terminal but she was a bit far away for my zoom.
Next was the 'Rms Buchholz' in West Dock and then round to the river bank to catch the 'Pride of Braila' in the river. We then took a quick tour of the Barge Dock and Marina catching a few of the oldies before returning to the riverbank for the 'Odin' to depart.
We then followed the riverside road stopping on top of the bank for a cuppa and a sarnie and waited for the 'Odin' to catch up for some better shots.
Next was the 'Henny' heading for Goole and the 'Ouse Patrol' boat which had penned out with the 'Odin' and assume penned back in with the 'Henny'.Next time gonna pack the wellies as the fields we crossed weren't ment for the boots i had on.
On our way again, for the wharves, catching the 'Eric Hammann' at Flixborough, the 'Ladoga-4 at Keadby and across the way the 'Est' and 'Lore Prahm' at Gunness.Over Keady bridge for the return leg to Hull,we asked at a factory if we could pop onto the wharves at Grove for a pic or three but no joy,ah well, stopped a bit further up and climbed the bank and managed to get what was berthed, all be it a bit further away than liked. This trio consisted of 'Geminus','Ansiro' and 'Windland'.
Not a bad collection for my first outing to these parts although i may just stick to close ups a bit for now as once the Digital Zoom kicks in the quality goes right out of the window, the upgrade can't come quick enough.
The hailstones pelted down on the way back so at least we caught the best of the weather for our jaunt, cant grumble.A good day all in all, cant wait for the next one.
Watch this space...............

Thanks to Mick Evans for showing me the places and the route, without which none of these pictures would have been possible,Cheers mate.
